Corona Magic!*

Here are some things that have been working out better than expected:

1. The Health Ministry – Misrad Habriyut *5400 – they have never been more amenable! They actually answer the phone in a timely fashion and give clear, relevant answers (and not just regarding Corona – my clients have many other, often complicated, issues)!

2. The new government central number (my secret) –

 They have helped me with real estate transactions, when the Property Tax office either did not answer, or was incapable.

They helped with Transport Ministry matters – my client had been waiting for months for a new drivers’ license; I got it for her in one phone call!

They’ve helped me with technical difficulties with the Justice Ministry website.

3. The Rabbinic Court – have been very helpful in obtaining old files for my clients – various judgements, including Probate orders from years ago.

4. Deadlines – by the banks, courts, tax authorities, insurance companies, etc. have all been graciously extended.

5. General Professional Flexibility – my experience has been a generosity of spirit amongst lawyers, accountants, and between them and their clients. Notably, Macabi Health Services has been outstanding in their administrative patience and care!

6. And, the winner is:

 Bituach Leumi! They have come through for the elderly and the disabled in a way that no seasoned pessimist could have predicted.

*I’ve chosen to focus on the positive!

On Banks and Aging and the Alternatives

There is no viable alternative to aging – viable being the key word here.

But we can age with more grace, bureaucratic stability and good health than ever before.

I can only offer advice on the bureaucracy – nothing more; but I believe this is crucial for grace and health.

No worries is something you put on a car sticker – but it can also become a reality.

Take care of just a few, small things – prevent them from growing out of proportion, now, while you can; then you will be able, indeed, get to a place of no worries, and focus on what you want (and not what you’re merely trying to prevent.

1. The banks – Go to your bank and get a clearer idea of the conditions of control of your account:

            * if it’s a joint account, what are the rights of the survivor?

* if someone else “just” has signatory powers – do they have a power of attorney as well? How will the bank relate to them after 120 years?

*  what is your overdraft allowance?

2. Aging –  You have rights!

* depending on your age, you may be eligible for an old-age pension from Bituach Leumi;

* if you are still relatively healthy, you might want to consider getting nursing care “Siudi” insurance, either through your health fund, Kupat Cholim, or privately through any insurance company in Israel;

* if you do have health problems, you will want to consider applying to Bituach Leumi, to be recognized for a certain level of disability – you may be eligible for services/discounts/ a stipend.

3. Office of Equal rights – HaMisrad L’Shivyon Zechuyot – Their number is *8840. When you leave a message in English, an English speaker will call you back – they’re pretty reliable.

4. Call me!
